- Shastri said Axar was earlier not doing justice to his batting
- India have extended T20I win-loss record to 14-6 against West Indies
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has predicted that both Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel will add balance to the national cricket team if they continue with their approach towards the game.
Shastri, who has closely worked with both the all-rounders, said that Jadeja has realised his potential. The former cricketer added that Axar, too, has understood that he was earlier not doing justice to his batting.
“Jadeja has improved vastly. He has realised his potential,” Shastri said while commentating on the first T20I between India and West Indies for FanCode.
“I think, on this tour, even Axar Patel has realised that he wasn’t doing justice to his potential as a batsman. Both of these players have a lot of talent when it comes to the batting department. They will add a lot of balance to the Indian team if they continue in this fashion.”
India defeated West Indies by 68 runs in the first T20I to extend their win-loss record to 14-6. India have now also won their last five T20Is against the Caribbean side.
Axar Patel played a match-winning knock of 64 not out to help India secure a clean sweep over West Indies during the ODI series. The Shikhar Dhawan-led side became the first India team to clean sweep ODI series, consisting three or more matches, in the Caribbean in 39 years.
Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja, who is considered the first-choice all-rounder, missed the entire ODI series as he was not 100 percent fit. He made a decent comeback, scoring 16 runs and taking one wicket in the first T20I.
