Indian all-format skipper Rohit Sharma said that it was tough for him to watch matches from the sidelines while he was recovering from Covid-19. The Nagpur-born Sharma was set to lead India in the rescheduled fifth Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

But that wasn’t the case after he contracted the ungodly virus. Later, Jasprit Bumrah was named as the skipper and India went on to lose the match by seven wickets. Moreover, they also missed a chance to win a Test series on English soil after the five-match series ended 2-2.

Sharma, who took over from Virat Kohli as the skipper in all three formats, said that he found it tough in the first few days after testing Covid positive. However, he also said that he had recovered and sounded excited about making a comeback to the field.

“It was hard to watch from the sidelines. It’s never an easy situation when you miss games, especially an important game like that when the series was on the line for us. Speaking of symptoms, I struggled a little bit for a couple of days, but I am happy that I am standing back on my feet, nice and healthy as I look forward to the T20I series followed by the ODI series,” Sharma was quoted as saying.

Sharma is now set to lead India in the three-match T20I series and the three-match ODI series against England. The white-ball matches are scheduled to get underway on Thursday, July 7. Rohit, in the meantime, has been rested from India’s ODI series in the West Indies along with Kohli.
