CWG 2022: Bindyarani Devi wins Bronze in weightlifting, India’s 4th medal on Day 2
Indian weightlifter Bindyarani Devi secured a Silver in the Women’s 55 kg category to secure India’s fourth medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022.

Bindyarani Devi capped off a fine day for Indian weightlifters as she secured a bronze medal in the Women’s 55 kg category on Saturday.
Devi’s medal was India’s fourth of Day two and from weightlifting. Earlier in the day, Mirabhai Chanu secured the country’s first gold of this year’s Commonwealth Games in the Women’s 49 kg category. Sanket Sargar secured the silver medal in the men’s 55 kg category and Gururaja Poojary bagged bronze in the men’s 61 kg category.
The 23-year-old started off the snatch round with a lift of 81 kg to put herself in the top three. Devi would then go on to lift 84 kg in her second attempt and made it three in three. She lifted 86 kg in the third attempt.
Devi started the clean and jerk round with a 110 lift in her first attempt. The indian weightlifter failed in the second attempt while trying to lift 114 kgs. In a battle with England’s Fraer Morrow for the Silver, Devi upped the ante and went for a 116 kg lift and executed it cleanly to take the second spot on the podium.
Women’s 55kg final results
Her third attempt in the round was a Commonwealth Games record and a personal best. Nigeria’s Adijat Adenike Olarinoye secured the gold medal in the event by a whisker as she lifted a total of 203 kgs. Devi’s tally from both snatch and clean and jerk came to 202 kgs.
